Not only do we have the familiar intergenerational divide with parents singularly incapable of understanding their children and vice versa husbands and wives find it just as hard to communicate with one another. But either way the pervasive color scheme becomes a conscious or unconscious symbol for this theme. The people in Good Morning all live in a small neighborhood of row houses which are so similar that one of them even enters the wrong house thinking its his.
Good Morning is a remake of the same story from 1932 called I Was Born But. Both were directed by Yasujiro Ozu but this time we find for my taste a much lighter and positive version about the members of a family who are ready to face their problems dreams and realities. It is perhaps his most American one in some way resembling two episodes of a 1950s sitcom not slow clocking in at 94 minutes and suffused with mono.
